BRON ROYLANCE
MOUNTAIN HOME ARTIST
About
Wild lilacs, mountain rivers, ocean breezes, pine trees, freshly cut wood, and Clubman’s talc are just a few of the smells that surround me. Stimulated by their redolence and motivated by creativity, I eventually discovered a way to incorporate my penchant for nature into artistic expression.
For the last 40 years, I’ve traveled the world as a professional makeup artist, working on 60+ television shows and feature films: Grease, “10,” Family Ties, Remington Steele, Back to the Future, Doc Hollywood, Terms of Endearment, Mars Attacks, People vs. Larry Flynt, The Matador, (3) Bond films and The Thomas Crown Affair, to name a few.
I’ve sailed the Nile, climbed the mountains of Chamonix, circled the Christ statue in Rio, navigated the labyrinth of streets in Cuenca, walked the shores of the Caspian Sea and toured alley street markets of Paris. Whether foraging for old Spanish doors, or chipping paint samples from abandoned French cabins, little did I know I was discovering the world of “wabi-sabi” — the art of finding unaffected beauty of things as they are.
Add to those experiences an early architectural course, a high school wood shop teacher for an uncle, and an addiction to flea markets and salvage yards, I eventually acquired a piece of land in the mountains of Utah and built my first cabin. The challenge of building soon turned a corner and became a recreation. Currently, I'm working on my 14th mountain home.
Like an abandoned barn, they invite us to set aside our pursuit of perfection and learn to appreciate the simple, unaffected beauty of things as they are.
